YOU DESERVE A POND ON YOUR BALCONY TODAY

I am constantly looking for ways to bring peace and awesomeness to my life. I love to push things to the limit when it comes to decorating my apartment. One day I decided that I wanted to create a jungle on my balcony and within that jungle, I want a pond. No matter where you live, rental or home that own; you deserve to enjoy your space to the max, therefore, you deserve to have a pond on your balcony.

Yes, I did say a POND! When I say pond, I mean with plants and fish too! My pound pulls tokens of inner peace from the Peace Gods and adds happiness to my life. I have trees and a major highway as my backdrop so I have created an #UrbanJungle inside and outside of my third-floor walk up. It is amazing! I can even hear the sounds of my pond while in my living room. I absolutely love it and you deserve a pond on your balcony too.

How to create a balcony pond?

First, you need to figure out what size you want your pond and what you will use as a base. You may already have containers or large flower pots around your home. Creating this calming oasis can be done on even the tightest of budgets and is buildable, meaning that you can add a few features here and there to enhance your pond. Hint: every payday. Determine a budget and how you want your pond to look and go for it. You can find rocks and stones for your pond by simply doing a nature walk and collecting them along the way, get items for free from friends and family and you can also search my favorite site, Craigslist for items for yours.

I was able to create my fabulous pond for under $100, but I am confident that I could have created a fabulous pond for under $40. I know that my very thrifty friends will manage to create this pond for FREE! These items can be purchased at your local nursery, hardware stores and pet stores.

  1. Fill your fountain base with water
  2. Add water conditioner
  3. Position large stones or bricks to add layers to your pond (This will create a shelf for you to add your plants.)
  4. Assemble and insert your fountain kit according to the directions provided with the kit.
  5. Now add pond plants
  6. Then add smaller stones (This will add texture and color to your pond as well as hold water feature in place)
  7. Finally, add 3-5 goldfish

Maintenance of your balcony pond

Caring for your pond is simple. You don’t have to water the plant because they are already getting plenty of water. Just cut back and leaves that die off. A 15% water change is required to keep your pond healthy. Understand that this water change does not replace the water that you will add due to evaporation. It’s also important that you keep enough water in your pond to support the proper functions of your fountain. Not only will your fountain provide the tranquil sounds of running water, it also serves as a filter for your pond. Last but not least, duh, you need to feed the fish every day. If you leave for vacation, don’t worry, just pop a slow release feeder into the pond and enjoy your vacation. I am out of town right now and my fish have enough food to last for 10 days.

Enjoy

Do not, I repeat DO NOT let the maintenance discourage you. I promise that it’s very easy. The peaceful sounds and beauty of your pond are invaluable. You’re going to be out there enjoying your balcony pond every day, anyway. All you have to do is just throw some fish food in there while you are at it. Imagine this: The hum of the cars driving up and down the highways make a whistling sound if you listen closely, birds singing to their own melodic tune, plants dancing with ripple of the wind, the calming sound of your fountain pond: drip-drop-splash, the shades of grey fluff quickly swipe across the orange specs of sun that’s trying to break through; the color of dawn before a storm…Soothing, you can sit out there for hours. Repeat after me: YOU DESERVE A BALCONY POND!
